When it comes to grooming, most of us focus on our face or hair and think we’re done. But if all you do for your private grooming is a quick wash with soap once in a while, it’s time to step up your game and keep things fresh down there. It’s important for your partner’s comfort too, as proper hygiene can make intimate moments more enjoyable for both of you.
The private areas of your body are warm, moist, and dark, which are perfect conditions for germs to grow. Bad smells, skin infections, and skin problems can all happen when there are too many germs in this area.
Regular grooming of your private area can help you notice any changes. It’s easier to see new problems like warts and signs of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) if you know what’s happening down there.
But, besides those big issues, there are some problems that can happen anytime, especially in sweaty seasons like the monsoon.
Here are a few issues you might face and how to deal with them:
Sweat Rash
This is a common issue in humid seasons like summer and monsoon. Sweat can build up and cause rashes and irritation, which is uncomfortable. The best way to deal with this is to shower every day and use talcum powder around your private area.
Foul Smell
When you don’t clean and take care of a part of your body well, it can start to smell sweaty and bad, which you and your partner won’t like. Just using soap isn’t enough anymore. That’s why using a special wash made for the private area is the best way to avoid a sweaty smell. It helps clean well and prevents unhygienic health problems.
Pimples/Heat Sores
This is a painful problem. When there’s a lot of heat and moisture, it can cause painful pimples and sores in areas that don’t get much air, like the private area. If you get pimples or sores, it’s best to wear loose boxers, avoid shaving until it heals, and see a doctor if it keeps happening. You can prevent them by staying clean, wearing clean underwear, and using talcum powder.
Jock Itch
Jock itch is a fungal infection that makes a red and itchy rash in warm and sweaty parts of your body. It often shows up in the groin and inner thighs and can look like a ring. This infection is caused by fungi called dermatophytes. Normally, these fungi live on your skin and don’t cause any trouble. But when you stay in wet clothes after sweating, it gives them a chance to grow fast.
To prevent jock itch, it’s important to wash your groin and armpits with soap and water every day. Wearing damp clothes for a long time can also cause jock itch. If you do get it, you can use an over-the-counter anti-fungal cream to help.
Dry & Flaky Skin
Keeping the private area dry is good, but if you feel itchy or notice flaky skin, it might mean the skin is too dry. If you have dry and flaky skin, try using a cream instead of powder.
Gentle creams are better for dry skin. They have ingredients to fight dryness and keep your skin moist.
